BBC DIY SOS The Big Build July 12, 2018 DIY SOS The Big Build One of our proudest moments was supplying the labour to fit a full central heating system on DIY SOS The Big Build Bromsgrove. To help a local Bromsgrove woman who faced being put in care Sunrise Plumbing and heating joined Hundreds of other local tradesmen as they joined forces to help Nick Knowles and his team change the life of Karis Lane who has Cerebral Palsy and lived with her mother Karen. Her mother’s declining health meant she could no longer provide her with constant attention and social services recommending she was put into care. There was an option that Karis could be cared for by her sister but there was the stumbling block that Johannas house would after be completely gutted to accommodate Karis and her needs for independence.Once Sunrise Plumbing and Heating heard that DIY SOS was trying to help the family we didn’t hesitate to contact the organisers and go and see them, we were asked to over see the heating side of the project and we didn’t think twice about rearranging our schedule and help..It was hard work in extreme temperatures but we loved every minute knowing what we was doing along with all the other trades was going to help this family. On the day of the hand over it was pretty emotional and to stand bank and see what we and other local trades and the community of Bromsgrove had achieved for this family was a feeling you can’t describe and something we will never forget. We are a family business and like others we gave up 2 weeks without earning a single penny and grafted from the early hours until darkness fell, knowing that at the end we would change a family’s life forever.Would we do it again?100% yeas, without a doubt the plumbing & heating trade has looked after me and my family and if I can use my trade to help someone in need we would do it again in a heartbeat.Bromsgrove Standard (12th July 2018) “Local Bromsgrove tradespeople have been working closely with the DIY SOS team all week, including Sunrise Plumbing and Heating which has installed a new boiler. They have volunteered free-of-charge to make the family’s dream become a reality.”
