Doing the right thing December 18, 2017 It was a cold December night when we received a call at 21;30 from a utility company we sub contact to asking us to attend an elderly vulnerable lady that had no water and plumbers who had left her in this position would not return or answer the phone..We agreed to attend as priority and got to the job at 22 hours, what we found was utterly shocking. The lady was not just vulnerable but had literally lost her husband the week before, and had now fallen foul to a rouge trader earlier that afternoon, they had turned the water off outside and cut the internal stop cock out and told her they had to get a one only to not return, to leave a an elderly customer without water and not return is despicable but it doesn’t stop there. They charged £513.60 for a simple job that should cost no more than £75-£90 inc parts. We set to work and fitted a new stopcock which we had on the van and repaired the pipework they had butchered removing the stopcock, once finished we fully tested the customer had water and she was ok.When it came to payment we waived all fees for both our labour and materials we just couldn’t charge her it didn’t sit right with us we got back that evening getting back home at 23:30 and played on our mind that someone could do something so shocking. We informed the utility company of our findings, the next thing we knew is that Craig Phillips winner of Big Brother and TV personality of 60 Minute Makeover had not only tweeted about our actions but had wrote about what we had done on his website https://craigphillips.co.uk/sometimes-it’s-just-good-do-right-thingFor us this was something we didn’t expect and didn’t ask for we are just a family business that done the right thing.
